Approving online payments

Some online payments use 3D Secure, which protects against unauthorised use of your card.

A merchant can choose to request this verification if they want to make sure it’s you making the payment.

You can approve this in two different ways:

  1. By opening your Monzo app, pressing approve and entering your card's PIN
  2. By requesting a code via text message (SMS), then entering that code

Some merchants don't allow you to do the first option, so if a payment fails please try again and tap Use SMS instead.
