Adding money to your account
There are a few different ways to add money to your account.
Make a bank transfer from another account
- Tap the Home icon in the menu bar
- Tap the Add money button under your Monzo card (if you can't find this button, swipe down on your list of payments)
- Tap UK Bank Transfer
- Make a note of your account number and sort code, then set up your Monzo account as a payee with your other bank
Bank transfers should arrive in your account instantly, but can sometimes take longer.
Deposit cash at a PayPoint location
If you'd like to pay cash into your Monzo account, you can deposit cash at any of 28,000 PayPoint locations across the UK.
To deposit cash, follow these steps:
- Find a shop displaying the PayPoint logo
- Tell the shopkeeper you’d like to add money to your card, and how much
- Hand over your card and the cash
- The shopkeeper will swipe your card and return it to you with a receipt
We pass on a £1 fee for making the deposit to help us cover the costs of the service. For example, if you deposit £10 then we'll add £9 to your account. If you deposit £100, we'll add £99.
You can deposit between £5-300 in one go. And you can pay in a maximum of £1,000 every six months. If you’re 16-17 years old, that limit's lower, so you can only deposit a maximum of £500 every six months.
Deposits take around 10 minutes to appear in your account.
Cheques
You can pay in cheques to your Monzo account, but you can't write them because we don't have cheque books.
To pay in a cheque, follow these steps:
- Tap the Home icon in the menu bar
- Tap the Add money button under your Monzo card (if you can't find this button, swipe down on your list of payments)
- Tap Cheques
Your cheque can take up to 5-7 working days to reach us. Once we’ve received the cheque, it'll take up to a week to be processed.
