The daily amount that you can withdraw from an ATM depends on what bank you're with and the type of account you have.

All UK cash withdrawals and payments are free of charge for Monzo Plus customers. There's a daily ATM withdrawal limit of £400 in the UK and a monthly limit of £5,500.

If you're not subscribed to Monzo Plus, you'll get more allowances if you rely on Monzo more. For example, if you are:

  • Paying in at least £500 every 35 days to a Monzo account and have at least one active Direct Debit on that same account, or

  • Getting a Department for Work and Pensions or Department for Communities’ payment (like Universal Credit or a state pension) into a Monzo account every 35 days

  • Getting your student loan paid into a Monzo account every 8 months

  • Sharing a Monzo Joint Account with someone who does one of the above

If you’re meeting at least one of these criteria, you won’t need to do anything to get bigger allowances, we’ll do this automatically for you. Please see our full rundown of fees here.

How much cash can you take out of ATM in the UK?

As people make contactless debit card payments more and more, ATMs around the UK are shutting down, with almost 300 shutting every month.

However, the cash withdrawal limit that you can take out of an ATM in the UK is largely dependent on the bank you’re with and the type of account you have.

With a Lloyds and Halifax account, the cash withdrawal limit is up to £500 a day whereas for Barclays (if you’re a personal customer with a current account), your daily limit on a debit card is only up to a maximum amount of £300. For premier customers with Barclays, you can withdraw up to £1,000 whilst business customers can withdraw up to £750.

For most Nationwide account holders, the maximum cash withdrawal limit is also £500, however for their Smart Card and FlexOne account holders, it is £300.

NatWest and RBS also have a daily cash limit based on what kind of account you have. Those with Student, Graduate, Savings or Adapt Accounts can withdraw up to £250 cash daily, whilst those with Foundation, Select, Reward, Silver or Platinum accounts have a maximum cash limit of £300. Black account holders can withdraw £700 cash from an ATM.

TSB account holders have a max limit of £200 a day and if you are with Santander and HSBC and hold a 'Bank' account, your maximum limit is up to £300 a day. For HSBC Advance customers, you can withdraw £500 and for HSBC Premiere and Jade, the limit is £1,000.

Making a withdrawal with a credit card will vary depending on the provider. You should bear in mind that these withdrawals are often called a "cash advance", and will acquire interest differently than if you were making a card purchase. Please consult your credit card's terms and conditions.
